Habanera Notes This is really a great tune for beginners. This version is the longer version with two additional bass variations. This tune is, like Leo Kottke once said, "where I take a simple little melody and drive it into the ground". The first section of this piece is one of the first tunes I ever learned and the melody has that great minor key melodrama. Beginners should focus initially on just this first section, then add the other variations as your skills progress. The first variation is a slightly more difficult enhancement on the original theme. The second variation picks up the tempo and moves to a more contemporary alternating bass. It's a good exercise in using different bass themes under a melody. Have fun with it and try a few bass variations yourself. I also have a version of this in a altered tuning that allowed me to move up and down the neck pretty easily, but there is no tab for this version.
